1977 yılında vokalist Udo Dirkschneider, gitaristler Jan Kommet ve Wolf Hoffman, davulcu Stefan Kaufmann ve basçı Peter Baltes tarafından kurulan Alman grup, önceleri heavy metal-rock agırlıklı calismalarla ismini duyurdu ve toplama albumlerde sarkilari yayınlandı.1979 da ilk albumu Accept i yayınlayan grup asıl çıkışını, yeni gitaristi Jorg Fisher in katılımının ardından cıkardigi 1983 tarihli Restless And Wild isimli albumle yaptı ve heavy metal in en önemli gruplarından biri oldu. Grubunun karakterini oluşturan, Udo nun kısık ve hırıltılı sesi ile melodik gitar partisyonlarıydı. Öte yandan 80 lerde uç vermeye baslayan Thrash metal akımının oluşumunda da muzikal yapisi ile etkili oldu. Restless And Wild, Balls to the wall ve Metal Heart gibi klasikleşen albumler yaptıktan sonra vokalist Udo nun ayrılıp kendi adıyla bir grup kurmasının ardından dagıldılar. 1989 da yeniden bir araya gelmelerine ragmen eski başarılarını yakalayamadılar ve yok oldular.
